Nettle

High in vitamin A and C, nettle helps the body to expel toxins.

Nettle is a perennial flowering plant that has been used for centuries for food and medicine.  It can be found all over the world, but its origins are in the colder regions of Europe and Asia. It grows best in nitrogen rich soil, has heart shaped leaves, and produces yellow or pink flowers.

Rich in vitamins A and C, iron, potassium, manganese and calcium, nettle can be used as a diuretic, helping kidney and liver function, improving metabolic efficiency, increasing circulation and helping the body to detox.   The flavonoids and carotenoids found in nettle, along with the high concentration of vitamin C, all make this plant an effective immune system booster.

Nettle is also well known for its anti-inflammatory health benefits and can help to soothe painful muscles and joints – it is used in treating arthritis.   Recent studies have also shown nettles to be valuable as a natural allergy relief remedy, great for relieving fatigue and easing allergens such as eczema, asthma and hayfever.

Extracts of the root are used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia. Scientists have identified a variety of biochemical properties in nettle extract that support their use in herbal medicine.

Due to its subtle flavour and many health benefits we have blended nettle into our refreshing and invigorating WILD GREEN.
